CSC October News Bulletin

President Ewan Brown outlined the parameters agreed by the Board for use in negotiations to achieve a good outcome for the CSC in relation to achieving the goal of either significantly renovated premises on the existing site or new purpose-built facilities in North Canberra.

CSC basically has been told we are now back to “square one” so we need to present a strong case to the ACT Government that there is a real need to expand facilities or provide new premises.

One option likely to bring success is to get a group of community organisations together who are willing to share in a new venue thus giving the Centre a far better chance of presenting its case than by going it alone.

Ewan advised that the Board had agreed to a plan to bring a large number of interested parties together to form the Northside Community Infrastructure Alliance that would assist in presenting a strong case for establishing seniors’ facilities in Dickson. The aim was to eliminate the ‘divide and conquer’ attitude presently seeming to constrain progress. The North Canberra Community Council is prepared to be a lead organisation in advancing this proposal.

FETE 18 Nov, 8.00-2.00

There are less than three weeks to go before we will be setting up the stalls for our Christmas fete. We have had lots of donations which need to be sorted into their appropriate categories, and, even now, we would be grateful if you could come in for an hour or so to help with this task (such as hang clothes on racks). Sadly, we have had very few offers yet for the cake stall. We can give you ingredients if you wish. Please get baking!!!

The kitchen has its menu ready including our popular crumbed mushrooms, hamburgers and fish and chips.

We will have all the usual stalls: Books, Trash and Treasure, Plants, Clothes, Toys and Games and Craft. As always, the Craft Group have been working tirelessly since the last fete to produce beautiful items, ideal as a Christmas gift for that special person in your life.

Canberra Seniors Centre invites you to join us for our November Birthday Lunch (Thursday 9 November). On the menu this month we have Crumbed Fish with Chips and Salad followed by Baked Custard.

Please phone us on 6248 9509 or email us at by 3 November to let us know if you will be attending. Remember lunch is free for members with November birthdays and $10 for other members and friends.
