Tech Hub

The new Tech Hub is up and running!

We have two Windows computers available – connected to the internet; hooked up to a scanner and printer and ready to use.

We have acquired an Epson flatbed scanner which can be used to scan all your old photos, negatives and slides.
Please bring a USB or external hard drive to save your work.
We also have some iPads and phones to borrow in case you’d like to “try before you buy”.

  • Want to learn Trove, Family Tree Maker, Maps, Facebook?
  • Need to jump online and look something up?
  • Need to sort out the shoebox of photos under the bed?
  • Need to organise all your Life Admin and sort all your paperwork?
  • Need to create a Digital Legacy?

DIY or need some help – visit the Tech Hub and make an appointment for one-on-one lessons or jump straight in.
The sessions can be booked, 30 minutes for $7, on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday depending on the availability of the tutor.
Please email your desired time to seniors.techhub@gmail.com

The sessions are focused on a single topic so our brains don’t get too overloaded with new information.
The aim is to learn one thing and then practice independently.
For example: once you have learnt to scan photos, come back in your own time and tackle the rest of the shoebox.

Your next session would be learning how to take out the scratches and optimise the digital photos. For this we have a Wacom tablet and pen which makes fine detail a breeze.

If you then want to use those images to create a photobook, we can help there too.

Use Family Tree Maker to map out all your family history and create ancestor charts . This can be linked to Ancestry (you’ll need to be a member of ACT Libraries) and FindaGrave. Explore the Australian War Memorial website and the National Archives.

Learning Trove can open so many doors to online research. The National Library has digitised millions of pages of Australian newspapers, letters and magazines. Take it for a spin and see what you can discover.

So many rabbit holes to explore and we are here to help if you need a hand to get started.
